Sally Beauty x Maria Nila | Vegan and Cruelty-Free Blow Dry

Last Sunday I had the pleasure to have a vegan and cruelty-free blow dry at Blow and Blow with the Sally Beauty UK team. I don’t know about you but if there is something I love is to get my hair touched and pampered even more than getting my make up done. Who else feels me?

I don’t really tend to talk about my hair as much though, but I did do a video on my usual haircare routine right here if you’d like to have a read!

In general, it’s not easy to find vegan, cruelty-free and toxic-free haircare or hair salons. When it comes to dying your hair with scalp and animal-friendly products, I have had to do so much research to find a place that suited my standards! So when I got invited to try Maria Nila‘s products in conjunction with Sally Beauty and other bloggers, I couldn’t say no. So today I’m going into detail into my experience, and I hope that you get to try it for yourself! Let’s get into it 🙂

Blush and Blow in Fulham

The event took place at the Blush and Blow salon in Fulham, a lovely and cosy beauty salon right next to Parson Green Station.

With beautiful lamps, sofas and stools, this place has been made to make you feel pampered and to allow yourself a bit of ‘me time’.

Sally Beauty sell lots of beauty products, though predominantly haircare, anywhere from heat protection, hair colouring, dry shampoos and texturising sprays, so having an entire range of vegan, cruelty-free and toxic-free products is just amazing!

The idea of the event was try out the Maria Nila haircare products, which are available on Sallybeauty.co.uk.

Sally Beauty offers lots of beauty products, predominantly in the haircare category. From texturising sprays to colouring products, to heat protecting sprays and even travel-size dry shampoos,  I had such a fun day with the team, learning about the products, getting a lovely loose waves kind of hairstyle, as well as leaving with well nourished hair and a few products to take home and try.

ABOUT MARIA NILA

Maria Nila’s products are 100% vegan and cruelty free-certified products.

Developed for animal lovers, nature and your hair. Animals fill our lives with joy and laughter, and should therefore never be part of a beauty product. By providing high quality vegan products, we make it easy for you to take a step towards a sustainable and friendlier world. When choosing Maria Nila, you choose animal-friendly and colour-preserving haircare products manufactured locally in Sweden. Our chemists always develop Maria Nila’s products with the highest quality ingredients. The content should be nice to hair, animals and nature.

CERTIFICATIONS

Maria Nila is certified by three independent organisations:

PETA: People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the world’s largest animal rights organization. Being certified by PETA means that they oversee and ensure that the ingredients of their products are truly vegan and that they do not test animals.

Leaping Bunny: which lists brands that are guaranteed not to test their cosmetics, hygiene or cleaning products on animals.

The Vegan Society.: It’s the largest and oldest vegan organisation in the world. They coined the word Vegan 1944 and ensure that all products and ingredients are 100% vegan.

ECO-FRIENDLY

Zeromission: Maria Nila is a carbon-neutral company – this means that they offset any CO2 used to create their products. Climate compensation means that a certain amount of greenhouse gas emissions, which they have not managed to reduce internally, are climate compensated by measures outside their own operations. This can be done by investing in projects for the production of renewable energy, energy efficiency, through tree planting or in projects that conserve forests.

Planting Trees: Maria Nila also helps the environment as every time you buy a product from them, you contribute to the planting of new trees in South America. I just love companies who contribute to a better world!

Plan Vivo’s Taking Groot Project: this organisation collaborates with farmers in some of the poorest parts of the world for reforestation of forests. This is achieved by encouraging farmers to replant the under-utilised parts of their farms in exchange for direct payments. The farmers families are offered an income and the project helps to mitigate the effects of climate change. Farmers can work on a long-term basis and focus on caring for the forest instead of shutting down for economic results in the short term.

ONTO MY HAIRSTYLE!

We started by washing my hair (that I hadn’t washed in 4 days…. oops!) with the Pure Volume Shampoo, followed by the Pure Volume Mask. By this stage I was already falling asleep and enjoying the beautiful scent of the Maria Nila products. The reason why they used these products on me is because I have very fine hair, even though I have a lot of it. So I am always happy to use products that are lightweight and won’t weight my hair down. I love that the the products are free from sulphates and parabens, and both infused with vitamin B5. The Pure Volume Shampoo includes Colour Guard Complex, thus reducing the loss of colour associated with washing, heat styling, UV rays and free radicals. And the Pure Volume Mask was made with Shea Butter too!

THE PROCESS

After washing, towelling and combing my hair, they applied the Style & Finish Cream Heat Spray, just to protect my hair from the hairdryer and curling tongues that were to follow. I ALWAYS protect my hair from heated devices so I was glad they did not skip this step! This product prevents split ends and adds shine to the hair too.

After drying my hair, they used a bit of the Style & Finish Hairspray so that the curls that they were about to do would stay in place longer (remember I have very fine hair!). Honestly these products smell so good even the hairspray was not as bad as I thought it would be haha

Finally, they applied the True Soft Argan Oil gel-type of serum, which was my favourite discovery and the one I have been using this week ever since then. The reason why I liked it so much was because I was looking for an anti-frizz and styling oil that was natural, non-petrol derived, and wouldn’t weight my hair down. The thing with natural oils is that they are quite heavy for my hair and therefore the minute I put a little organic coconut oil or 100% argan oil, I would have to wash my hair already the next day. But this product was so so amazing! Just 1-2 pumps is enough to nurture the hair and make it soft, hydrated and styled without weighing it down.

Final result!
All of the products used on me!

I hope you enjoyed discovering this new vegan and cruelty-free haircare brand, I’ll be sure to go back for my next blow dry ! I highly recommend them, especially the True Soft Argan Oil. You can find all of their products on the Sally Beauty UK website, and if you do try them I’d love to know how you get on!
